The AirGarage alternative for operators who want to keep running the lot.

AirGarage runs the operation and takes a share of the revenue. OpenSpot is software you run yourself: $0 a month for the operator, funded by a 10% driver fee.

OpenSpot vs. AirGarage

OpenSpot and AirGarage, side by side

AirGarage takes over running your lot and is paid a share of what it makes. OpenSpot is software you run yourself, paid for by a fee charged to the driver. The question is not which is cheaper on a spreadsheet, it is whether you want to keep operating the lot.

Questions

Answers before you sign up

Setup, hardware, pricing, and switching: the questions operators ask before trying a new platform.

They are not the same kind of cost, so the comparison depends on your lot. OpenSpot charges the operator $0 per month and is funded by a 10% convenience fee charged to the driver on each transaction; standard Stripe card processing still applies. AirGarage is paid a share of the parking revenue and does not publish the split. AirGarage's share also buys you an operator running the lot, which OpenSpot does not provide. Compare what you keep per dollar collected, and count the work you would be taking back on.

AirGarage is an operator: it states that it runs every part of the parking operation, with hardware, software and operations on them. OpenSpot is software that you run: you set the rates, you decide how enforcement works, and you keep the relationship with your drivers. If you want someone else to run the lot, AirGarage is the right shape. If you want to run it yourself without paying a monthly platform fee, OpenSpot is.

No. You set a base hourly rate and, if you want them, time-of-day and day-of-week pricing blocks, daily maximums, minimum stays and date-specific event rates. A price checker prices a session before it goes live so you can see exactly what a driver will be charged. Nothing about your pricing is set by OpenSpot.

No, and it is worth being blunt about that, because it is the main reason to choose AirGarage instead. OpenSpot automates the parts software can do: taking payment, reading plates, flagging unpaid vehicles, and paying you out. Staffing, signage decisions, and whether to tow stay with you. AirGarage states that it runs every part of the parking operation, hardware, software and operations included. If that is what you want, you want an operator, not a platform.

For QR parking, yes. You set a rate, put out a QR sign, and start taking payments, with most lots live in about 10 minutes. There are no gates to install, no ticket dispensers and no wiring. LPR enforcement does need a camera with a view of the entrance, which is the one physical change on the list. Whatever arrangement you are leaving, check its notice period first: AirGarage states that it works month to month with no long-term contracts, but your own agreement is the one that governs.

No hardware required for QR payments. Just printed signage with a QR code. LPR enforcement is optional: if you want automated plate reading, we handle the camera installation. Most operators start with QR only and add LPR later.

LPR cameras read license plates automatically and flag unpaid vehicles in your dashboard with photo evidence and a full audit trail. No kiosks, no gate arms, no paper tickets. For lots without cameras, you can issue citations manually from the dashboard using the same plate-check flow.
